Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
The short version
- We store almost nothing: your email, a hashed password, your plan, and monthly usage counts.
- Your audio is never stored; it's transcribed live and immediately discarded.
- No transcripts, questions, or screenshots are ever saved on our servers.
- Your study sheets are PDFs saved on your own computer, not uploaded to us.
- Want your account gone? Email contact@get-relai.com and we'll delete it.
What we collect
When you create a Relai account, our servers store exactly this:
- Your email address
- A hashed version of your password (bcrypt, so we never see or store the password itself)
- Your subscription tier (Free, Pro, or Max)
- If you subscribe, your Stripe customer and subscription IDs (Stripe holds your actual payment details, so we never see your card number)
- Monthly usage counters (minutes transcribed, AI usage, and PDF exports) so we can enforce plan limits
That's the complete list. We don't collect your name, your school, your location, or analytics profiles about you.
What we never store
The content of your sessions never touches our database. Specifically, Relai's servers do not store:
- Audio recordings: audio is streamed for live transcription and discarded as it's processed
- Transcripts of your lectures
- Questions you ask, or the answers you receive
- Screenshots you analyze
- Documents you upload for grounding (Pro): chunks are sent to generate answers, not retained by us
When you close a session, its content exists in exactly one place: the PDF you chose to save on your own computer, or nowhere, if you didn't save one.
How a live session actually works
While you're in a session, your microphone or system audio is streamed to Deepgram, our transcription provider, which converts speech to text in real time. The audio is processed live and discarded; it is not stored by Relai.
When you ask a question, the relevant transcript text, your question, any screenshot you capture, and (on Pro) chunks of your uploaded slides or notes are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the answer. Requests go through Relai's backend, so API keys stay server-side and your account is never exposed to those services directly.
Who processes your data
We use three service providers, each for one job:
- Deepgram: receives session audio to produce the live transcription
- Google (Gemini API): receives transcript text, questions, screenshots, and uploaded document chunks to generate answers
- Stripe: processes subscription payments; your card details live with Stripe, not with us
We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or send it anywhere not listed above.
What stays on your device
The Relai app keeps a small settings file on your own computer at %APPDATA%\Relai containing your session token, email, and plan tier, so you stay logged in. Study-sheet PDFs you export are saved to your Documents folder. Both are under your control; deleting them is up to you and never affects our servers.
Deleting your account or getting your data
There's no self-serve flow for this yet. Email contact@get-relai.com from your account email and we'll delete your account, or send you an export of the account data we hold (which, per the list above, is short).
Recording responsibly
Relai transcribes live audio, and recording laws vary by region, and some places require the consent of everyone being recorded. Your school may also have its own policies about recording lectures. You're responsible for making sure your use of Relai complies with the laws where you are and with your institution's rules.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Meaningful changes will be called out, not buried.
