The short version

What we collect

When you create a Relai account, our servers store exactly this:

That's the complete list. We don't collect your name, your school, your location, or analytics profiles about you.

What we never store

The content of your sessions never touches our database. Specifically, Relai's servers do not store:

When you close a session, its content exists in exactly one place: the PDF you chose to save on your own computer, or nowhere, if you didn't save one.

How a live session actually works

While you're in a session, your microphone or system audio is streamed to Deepgram, our transcription provider, which converts speech to text in real time. The audio is processed live and discarded; it is not stored by Relai.

When you ask a question, the relevant transcript text, your question, any screenshot you capture, and (on Pro) chunks of your uploaded slides or notes are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the answer. Requests go through Relai's backend, so API keys stay server-side and your account is never exposed to those services directly.

Who processes your data

We use three service providers, each for one job:

We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or send it anywhere not listed above.

What stays on your device

The Relai app keeps a small settings file on your own computer at %APPDATA%\Relai containing your session token, email, and plan tier, so you stay logged in. Study-sheet PDFs you export are saved to your Documents folder. Both are under your control; deleting them is up to you and never affects our servers.

Deleting your account or getting your data

There's no self-serve flow for this yet. Email contact@get-relai.com from your account email and we'll delete your account, or send you an export of the account data we hold (which, per the list above, is short).

Recording responsibly

Relai transcribes live audio, and recording laws vary by region, and some places require the consent of everyone being recorded. Your school may also have its own policies about recording lectures. You're responsible for making sure your use of Relai complies with the laws where you are and with your institution's rules.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Meaningful changes will be called out, not buried.
